Which iPhones Will Support the iOS 17 Upgrade?

The first developer beta of iOS 17 was released at WWDC 2023. The first developer beta of iOS 17 was released at WWDC 2023.
It's not true that all devices running iOS 16 will support iOS 17. Apple has dropped the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus, as well as the iPhone 8 Plus, from its update cycle. These devices will still receive iOS 16 updates but will miss out on the new features and updates that iOS 17 offers.
The three phones were launched in 2017, so they are all almost six years old. The iPhone X was released to commemorate ten years since its release. It featured a full-screen display, Face ID, a display notch, and a more expensive price.
The iPhone 8 was not a significant iOS 17 Upgrade from Apple's prior phones. However, it did come with a price cut of $999. It's an excellent option for people who need to upgrade but can't afford a high-priced smartphone.
In 2023, we don't think many people will be using these three smartphones. It's not as if your device is suddenly outdated for those still using it. Apple will continue to release security updates and bug fixes as needed. The updates will not be as frequent as if you owned an iPhone Xs, iPhone SE 2020, or iPhone Xs 2020.
You will get iOS 17 if you own an iPhone launched in 2018 or after. We don't have a specific date for the launch of iOS 17, but we know it will be this fall. The new software is usually released around the time of a new iPhone.
Apple has not announced a date, but it is always predictable. Apple's iPhone 15 is expected to be released in mid-September, with iOS 17 following shortly after. Apple's iPhone 15 will come with iOS 17 out of the box. The following devices are confirmed to receive the update:
The iPhone XS/XS Max and iPhone XR will likely be compatible with iOS 17. They may only get a few features because of hardware limitations.
The iOS 17 update will likely be available for all three iPhone 11 models. These devices, like the XS and XR models, may not be able to support all of the new features in the latest iPhone OS.
All four iPhone 12 models are expected to be compatible with iOS 17. The latest iOS release will likely bring the most functionality to these devices, which are almost three years old.
Like the iPhone 12 and 13 series, iOS 17 will be compatible with the iPhone 13 Series, so users can enjoy all of the new features even if they have older hardware.
The Apple iPhone SE (2022), with the A15 Bionic Processor, will be the sole iPhone that supports iOS 17 with Touch ID. The iPhone SE 3rd Gen will also get most of the new features, just like the iPhone 13 Series.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are fully compatible with iOS 17. Being the newest models, these devices are likely to get the most from the iOS 17 release.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro will be the most compatible with iOS 17. The iOS 17 update will likely bring new features to these devices, which have Dynamic Island and more powerful processors than older models.
Not all iOS 17 features announced at WWDC by Apple or described on its iOS 17 information page may work on all phones. Some software update cycles only work on newer models with more powerful processors.
Thanks to in-line predictive text, you'll also need at least an iPhone 12 to use the improved auto-correction capabilities and complete words or sentences with a space bar tap. For improved auto-correction and the ability to complete sentences or words with a single space bar tap, you'll need an iPhone 12 or later.
Point and Speak is one of the iOS 17 accessibility features announced before WWDC. This feature requires the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Standby, which turns your iPhone's screen into a smart one when not in use, will work with all iOS 17-compatible phones. You'll still need an iPhone with always On Display to have StandBy display information continuously. The iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Pro are the only phones offering this feature.
Apple automatically pushes the updated software to all eligible iPhones. You can choose to do nothing and let the iPhone download during inactive hours and while charging. Or you can go into Settings > General and force a download.
Apple has been allowing users to run its operating system before its official release for some time now. How do you download the iOS 17 beta?
It's relatively easy. You must go to beta.apple.com and sign in using your Apple ID. Then, enrol the device you wish to use in the beta programme. Download a beta profile and install it on your device.
Apple also distributes the iOS 17 Developer Beta, which has new features before the public version. Apple distributes the iOS 17 developer beta only to those registered in their iOS Developer programme. Using daily developer betas is also not recommended, as they tend to be less stable than builds deemed "OK" for the public. "
Apple has stated that new features will be available in the fall. Many of these features were either not ready for prime time or noteworthy enough to be included in an already long event.
Apple has announced the following features for iOS 17:
Photos will help you recognise people and pets better.
Share an AirTag with up to five people.
Offline maps: Download an area to use for turn-by-turn navigation, estimated arrival times, and more, even while offline.
Health App: New features for mental well-being, including anxiety and Depression assessments.
Safari: improved private browsing mode for better protection.
Apple Music: collaborative playlists you can share with friends SharePlay allows car passengers to access Apple Music without having a subscription.
Reminders: A new grocery list automatically groups items into categories, making it easier to organise and shop quickly.
Visual look-up: You will be able to inspect and "lift" specific subjects from paused video, just as you would from photos.
"Hey Siri"—you can activate Siri by calling her name. Then, you can speak with several prompts without having to reactivate the assistant.
Assistive access simplifies the phone's interface with big, clear buttons that make it more usable by users who are disabled in some way.
Live Speech allows users to speak their words out loud when they are on the phone, on FaceTime, or in a live situation.
Privacy and Communication Safety: This feature will keep your kids safe when they receive and send files using the photo gallery picker. It also includes videos.
Privacy-Sensitive Content Alert: On-device image processing detects photos of potentially unwanted contents and displays a warning that they may not be something you want to see if they are not from trusted contacts.
